Sunday
Today was our rest and relaxation day so instead of heading to the project we went to church. Half of the group went to the local church and half went to Christchurch cathedral for Sunday Mass. Religion is huge part of Ghanaian life and this was immediately obvious due to the extravagance of the service and the volume of people that attended. Our service began singing from the church choir before the priest delivered a sermon in which he seemed to switch between song, prayer and advice without taking a breath. Two hours later we left the church (which showed no signs of slowing down), had lunch and headed to the local beach resort, where we spend the afternoon chilling with our buddies. We went swimming and played football and beachball before having an early dinner at beach and going to a local spot to watch Euro16. All in all a very pleasant and relaxing day.
Monday
Today we awoke to a breakfast of toast and omelettes before heading to the school to continue the work on projects.
We have now finished all the tables, chairs and shelves for the library and the majority of the painting leaving only varnishing and decorative painting left to do.
Today we also held a half hour lesson with a class in kindergarten and primary school. My partner and I took the primary 2 class and attempted to teach them eight animals in English. This was a very revealing experience as the excitement of the kids faces was plain to see and they seemed to take a lot out of the lesson. Other classes were taught parts of the body, colours, foods and animals as well. After we finished at the school we headed back to the beach for a cheeky chill session for an hour before back to hostel. Overall a very enjoyable day.
