Day 1: Friday 8th June 2016
We arrived in Ghana at approximately 5pm, it was very humid. We climbed onto an orange safari bus which was great fun – although the roads were very bumpy. After an hour journey we arrived at the guest house where we soon settled into our rooms. We experienced drinking out of water bags. We had an early night and soon went to bed.
Day 2: Saturday 9th June 2016
We got up early and had toast for breakfast before getting into the bus for a busy 4 hour journey. We past lots of the locals carrying objects on their heads and waving. We stopped briefly at the office and then traveled to where we were staying. We soon adapted to heat and the room and now feel comfortable- although we need to remember to not put paper down the toilet. The showers are refreshing as they are nice and cold. We walked and had a look at the school whilst children followed us on the way. we then carried on walking where we negotiated for some green oranges and bought a fan ice- the local refreshing ice creams. We came back to have palava- an egg curry and rice which was delicious. We told riddles and then went to bed after our mosquito nets had been put up.
Day 3: Sunday 10th June 2016
We awoke to pancakes which was delicious. At 9am we went to church which was full of singing and dancing. We listened to a talk and left after 3 hours. It was very different to English churches and friendly welcoming. We tried a malt drink which was unusual. After the service everyone wanted selfies- we felt famous! We then went back and had a yam chips which we loved! Next, we headed to the local market and practiced negotiating for watermelons. We met some people who explained our African names. Eliza got proposed to and Rachels hand was kissed but they seemed very friendly because we apparently know Queen Elizabeth. We then returned home to be greeted with little children who played catch. After this we ate egg curry and rice which was very nice and sorted out things to take to the school on Monday.
We are having a great time and very close to one another. Molly and Eloise are sharing a room, Eliza, Caitlin and Imo are in another, Ruth, Charlotte and Rachel are in another and Rayan has his own room but chills with everyone. We are thinking of you all.
