Sunday 2nd August
This morning we were delightfully woken up by Polly’s alarm at 6:00am to pack up our mosquito tents and camp beds to make our way down to the beach resort with a few stops along the way. Before our journey, to conclude last nights fabulous evening at 8:00am we planted a tree in the reading area (one of our projects). Then we made our way singing at the top of our voices. The first stop on the way was Athulla’s (one of the cooks) farm to see how organic foods are produced. During this time the bus driver dared Charlie, Joe and Harri to eat a chilli and being curious they did and regretted it immediately! Joe in fact ate two it was very interesting to see all the different types of vegetables and fruits are grown.
The next stop we were fortunate enough to go to a beautiful lake with stunning views to look at the birds and the wildlife. We didn’t see a lot of birds but the scenery was enough. After our photo shoot everyone clambered back on the bus only to realise that Charlie had left Ruebs’ croc on the viewing platform.
By this point everyone was quite tired but extremely excited to get to the beach but we still had two more stops to go. After a short drive we arrived at a tree filled with sleeping bats. Because everyone was so tired and we could see out of the windows only Grace, Max, Harri, Maddie T, Morty and Carol got off to get a closer look. Well the bats were sleeping until Morty threw a stick at the tree which got a few of them flying away. Afterwards a man came up to us and started shouting to get more of the bats out of the tree which was very successful and we took lots of photos.
Finally we arrived at the beach resort with the sun shining. After frantically putting our mosquito tents and camp beds up we dashed for the sea. The waves were strong but very fun to play in with all of the team. The beach was very relaxing and during the sunset we all clambered onto a big rock and sang songs together – team 2 love a good sing along!
To top off the day we had a delicious fish barbecue in which even people like me (who really don’t like fish) thought it was very tasty! At the moment we are currently sat in our team meeting going through our highlights of the trip so far with many more to come I’m sure. Although we are missing home we are all very sad to be leaving soon
Lots of love Maddie Taylor❤️
