This morning we woke up at 4am after a great meal last night at a traditional Sri Lankan beach restaurant. After our amazing breakfast with pancakes, coconut rice and freshly baked bread we packed our day bags and waited for the jeeps to arrive. When they arrived our eyes lit up with excitement ready for our day ahead. We got in our teams (which we arranged Late last night) all excited with what the day ahead would bring then off we went to Yala safari park.
The entrance to the park was amazing because of the huge arch we had to drive through the, it consisted of lots of different statues. Once we had driven through security we drove through on a strange dirt path where we came across our first animal the peacock. Unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to see its flashy tail but just seeing one itself was amazing. The next animal we came across was a warthog , then some monkeys and to top that group off a few crocodiles bathing next to a lake. The highlight of the safari was being able to see 2 elephants on our travels, one elephant was having a bath and the other we managed to see face to face whilst it was feeding off a tree.
Once we had seen all the animals and had spent a good 4 and half to 5 hours at the safari we went back to the resort where we packed down our tents and loaded up the van.
After we loaded the van we drove to the buddy teacher location, on the way we got a traditional meal where we had to eat with our right hand which to be fair we were all really bad at. We then continued to see 5 buddies at there homes where we stuffed our faces with all of the lovely but spicy food that they had laid out for us.
We got back to the Janoda foundation where we had dinner and were reunited with the other team. Only 8 days left until we leave Sri Lanka but I’m going to treasure every moment of it. Wake up to a lye in tomorrow but then continue the day with the project work.
