Tuesday 28th of July
This morning we woke up feeling relaxed and refreshed, it was soon 8:00 and time for breakfast which was a delicious noodles with curry, actually called string hoppers! Soon after both teams had a quick briefing from Max about how to use puppets so they were prepared for the upcoming show at the school. By 9:00 we were on the minibus and travelling to the Tzu Chi school, when we arrived we were greeted by our buddies and then we went into a classroom where we practiced our show based on the conservation of turtles and how they should be protected.
It then came to the moment where we had to perform and we used the jungle finger puppets and the main turtle puppets. We were showing to around 100 children along with team 3, who had proposed a scene based on well-known children stories.
Max, then kept everyone entertained with his juggling skills and jokes, he also involved members of the audience including the Safna, the link teacher from Tzu Chi, Miss Andrews and Amelia’s buddy, Paba. Once we had finished we said farewell to our buddy’s and got back on the minibus.
We returned to a lunch made by the chefs and quickly ate it. We then continued with the project work as we had the correct equipment, so: Grace, Izzy, Austen and help from team 3 used cement to finalise the hopscotch. The workman who was thinning the trees had an issue and nearly passed out from heat stroke so we all rallied round and finished his clearing up for him as he was cared for by the adults and made to rest until he recovered.
After we had finished a hard afternoon of pure work it was time to get clean and eat! The leaders decided to treat us all to a short interval of retail therapy at a little row of floodlit shops around the corner, after exploring them all various luxuries were purchased and we returned to sum up the day with a review asking us to choose the song that most fitted our day! Happy clearly featured! Off on a day trip to Galle and the Virgin White tea plantation tomorrow early so we can enjoy the day to the full!
