Some more from Sri Banta!
The Rottis were a success! We woke for a trek down to the mud hut where our breakfast was cooked on a traditional open fire. Tears were shared over a cup of tea as we received messages from home (shoutout to Sophie Grigg for starting the emotional rollercoaster).
We soon manned up and went to preschool for another fun day entertaining. Today included finger painting, number games and puzzles as well as lots of singing. As a result we taught them colours in English and learnt 1 to 10 in their language. We ended up looking after twice as many children for twice as long as we anticipated; we must be doing a good job. However they were more entertained by us swinging them around than our carefully planned activities.
Later on, to experience the tourism in Sri Lanka, we visited a local hotel which is located on the beach where the tsunami hit. As a mid-week treat we had a dip in the pool, but to our surprise, we experienced monsoon rain. No amount of sun dancing, or Miss Britcliffe’s begging, pleading, and offering the youngest Lanka member as a sacrifice, caused the sun to emerge. However, we managed to distract ourselves with Katie’s six pack, glowing tan, and comparison of our feet.
When we arrived back, we had a rave to ‘bruvs chunes’ but were quickly surprised by a phonecall from King Karu letting us know he was taking us out for Dinner. Unfortunately, Ellie Lanka still had conditioner in her hair when she was informed the minibus was waiting outside. This meant abandoning her mission to blow dry her hair, in order to avoid looking like vegetation…
Dinner consisted of trying local cuisine in the form of egg hoppers and devilled chicken, accompanied by chilled water.
Sadly, the Lankas won’t be able to blog about their incredible experiences for a few days as King Karu is leaving for Colombo tomorrow, meaning we won’t have access to his laptop and dongle (wifi device). Luckily the manager of the girl group will be replaced by assistant manager, Buddhi (his brother).
We will thrill you with more Lanka Banter soon!
Lots of Love and hugs,
Jenny, Laura, Hannah, Kate, Katie and Ellie.
