On the 29th of March 2013, when our buddies from Kimbolton arrived at Stumble Inn, I was much happy to see my friend, because we had been writing to each other for a long time without seeing ourselves in person. I was delighted to see her and also when she hugged me.
My impression was that some of the UK buddies were a little shy. But my buddy was nice, caring and kind. My favourite part of the visit was when we went to Stumble Inn for a cultural dance workshop and played ampe and took pictures. I really enjoyed myself.
I learnt a lot through the visit such as how to drum and how to make a drum with Rasta Kobi. I learnt how cocoa (“theobroma cacao”) is grown, when we went to the cocoa farm in Atobiase. I learnt a lot about the fair trade too. When we went to Kakum National Park, we learnt that the canopy walk way was constructed by two Canadians and six Ghanaians and that the name, Kakum, was derived from a river in the forest. We also learnt about the destruction of the forest by surrounding villages before it became protected. I learnt some things from Elmina Castle too, also known as the St. George’s Castle. The tour guide also said it was built in 1482, it was used as a school in 1948, he aloso said that Elmina and Edina are wrongly pronouced Portuguese words!
I hope this friendship will last forever because, it will help us student and other students in this partnership programme world wide, in improving our education and social life.
