Once we were up we all enjoyed omelettes and bread for breakfast cooked by Augustina and the cook team. We all got into our project groups, Kirsty and I were in the painting group where we painted the walls white and brown and cleared up the room. It was successful however I got paint everywhere….

The other half of the team went down to the ‘Chiefs Palace’ to treat the wood for the roof – the Chiefs Palace is where the elders meet and is very important to the Dwabor community, so one of our main projects is to redo and decorate the building to make it stand out!

Eventually, we finished the walls and left the classroom to dry while we went and sorted the donations we brought with us as a team with Dora and Isaac (the teachers in Dwabor) – which they all appreciated so much and it was so nice to see! At the same time, Bradley and some of the others went outside to play with the smaller children, who had been eagerly waiting at the door while we were working. We have tried to encourage them all to join in educational games to help them learn more English, like drawing objects and labelling them.

After lunch, we continued with our painting of the classroom by working with our buddies to finish the tops of the walls (all of the taller people had to climb and reach the highest sections! We then started to paint the shelves in the classroom all different colours, as Dora thought it would be nice if her students could learn the colours of the rainbow. This ended up being extremely messy with so many people painting, so lots of us now have decorated legs with oil paints!

Next, we played with the children and buddies again until Isaac came running over to the Kindergarten telling us we had run out of water in the tank. So we all traipsed down to the centre of the village to go on a ‘well run.’ All of the kids and buddies and the team relayed up huge buckets of water to the school. Pulling up sacks of water from such a deep well was very tiring, but it made us appreciate how lucky we all are to have running water back in the UK.

After a hard days work, Bradley and I sat down with the others to eat ‘red red’ for dinner and in the evening we then spent time with our team and our buddies.

Kirsty: Heya Family and possibly friends as well if you are reading this, I hope you are all well and enjoying your holidays without missing me too much!
